Sal’s Travelogue #1 – Starting Solo
May 19, 2009
Traveling alone is often considered unusual, risky, lonely and even to some, boring. Great fun! I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much as we head towards Pulau Seribu. Jakarta wasn’t exactly known for its cleanliness, and Pulau Seribu was simply an hour boat ride away. Surely its still too... [Read more of this review]
Exile in Remote Putao
May 13, 2009
The beautiful remoteness of Putao has a prominent foothold on the Burmese imagination – remote, inaccessible and ringed by snow-capped Himalayan mountains. Truly off the beaten trek, Putao was one of the British Empire’s most remote outposts and due to its isolation, was never conquered by the Japanese during the World War. Today, the Kachin state attracts adventurers, lured to the place by tales of rare species of orchids, the discovery of new breeds of snakes... [Read more of this review]
